Reducing time to treatment is key in any infectious disease environment, in order to ensure that spread of the infection or disease is minimised as much as possible.
Mikkom has recently introduced enhanced functionality for the Department of Sexual Health of Homerton NHS Foundation Trust hospitals (Homerton) that interfaces directly with the lab systems, and links to the Department's EPR System, so patients are informed as soon as possible if any of their in-clinic STI tests have returned positive results. Furthermore, every positive result incorporates a link enabling the patient to book into the appropriate clinic for speedier follow-up treatment.
Not only does this ensure that patients are provided with the “right” follow-up in the shortest time possible but it also significantly reduces the amount of telephone traffic into the clinic reception centres, from people wanting to know the outcome of their STI Test results, thereby saving many hours per year for already over-worked clerical and medical staff alike.
Sajid Munshi - Information Systems Manager for Homerton Sexual Health Services said: “The introduction of the Mikkom Result Portal has enabled our patients to access their STI Tests results in real time giving them control to make a follow-up appointment if their results are positive or abnormal. Feedback from Patients has been really positive and initial access analytics show a large percentage of our patients are now using the Portal as opposed to phoning or presenting in Clinic to receive their results.”
Mike Unger, Mikkom CEO, said: “At a time where sexual health infections, both in London and across the UK, are spiralling upwards, we’re sure that the new results portal will be an invaluable tool to help address some of the challenges that Sexual Health clinics everywhere are facing.”
